The Relationship between Protease and Hemolysin Produced by Vibrio cholerae non-O1 Isolated from Seawater
Park Mi-Yeon

Chang Dong-Suck
Abstract
The purpose of this study was to study the biochemical activities between hemolysisn and protease in 11 strains of Vibrio cholerae non-O1 isolated from the waters of Gwangan beach in Busan, Korea, Results indicated that the loss of hemolytic activity correlated with the increase of porteolytic activity in the culture. The hemolytic activity of V. cholerae non-O1 FM 61 and FM 62 decreased sharply after 6 hr of cultivation, the initial exponential phase, while their proteolytic activity increased rapidly. On the other hand, the hemolytic activity of V. cholerae non-O1 FM 38, FM 49 and FM 57 remained through to the mid -stationary phase due to their weak protease activity. In addition, by adding crude protease hemolytic activity dropped in both V. cholerae non-O1 FM 62 and FM 49, and the hemolytic sensitivity to protease was lower in V. cholerae non-O1 FM 49 than in V. cholerae non-O1 FM 62.
